This is a promotional poster for Tosca, an opera by Giacomo Puccini. It's a tragedy, so everyone you are made to care about is going to die by the end. Because this opera has been performed since 1900, there are a lot of posters. They tend to heavily feature illustration, very intense type, and the infamous knife. I wanted to experiment with capturing the drama, the sharpness of Tosca's blade, with just type and color. I also wanted to pique the interest of people new to opera by only giving the slightest hint what this production is about.
This poster was created in Illustrator. The mockups were created in Photoshop.
